After reading this article on Upload VR about Hamonix’s Rock Band VR title, I thought I would add my commentary in the comments and felt it was worth cross posting here (something I should really do more often).

I co-own MetaverseXXX and have had the exact same discussions but about sex in relation to the above article. VR Porn, even in its current, low res, fixed point of view state, eye contact from someone you find attractive triggers similar feelings as if you saw that same person in real life. We suspect it is a dopamine release, the reward neurotransmitter, which is probably the same release you feel in Rock Band VR (will confirm personally soon). VR is only going to get better too which means those who may find the experience a little too low-fi to be subconsciously caught up in today, will eventually succumb to it once it crosses whatever “quality threshold” their mind needs to be sucked in. This got me thinking. Being looked at by someone you find attractive is a “validating” feeling and frankly right or wrong a human need. Most need to feel desired, and worthy of a mate. Makes sense as in many ways this is the Universes way of selecting you for procreation. As unromantic as that sounds, this is the reality. That said, not everyone gets to experience this unfortunately for a whole host of reasons that are rather taboo to discuss. Those who are attractive get a lot of people looking at them and smiling while those who are not get less. This is a fact and I am sure many of you will agree that you can feel this difference in a persons personality (beautiful person syndrome LOL). We are a social animal and that means we have social status which is based on many factors including looks and a higher social status comes with many benefits such as a feeling of well being. This all reminds me of some social experiments I read where a loner type person was intentionally brought into a group and treated with high praise and social status. This person went through a transformation over time and literally became a happier well adjusted person. They became that person esentiually even though it started off manufactured. You may have even witnessed a similar transformation yourself with someone you know who naturally, finally found “their” group. What if…just what if VR could do the same thing? What if you could put on your VR headset and visit a group of Virtual AI friends who all make smiling at you, welcome and praise you. Sure you will “know” is it not real, but as many of you already know, what you think and what you feel are not 100% linked. I have been making VR porn since 2014 and 3 years in, I am still totally caught off guard when QAing the scenes I shoot and the models make eye contact with me. I “feel” like they are looking at me and we are hanging out. So many times I have not seen a model in real life for months, and when they point that out to me, I have a hard time agreeing when I just saw them in VR a few days prior. It is such a weird feeling and really has led me to believe that VR/AR/MR are really going to reveal and challenge many of our views of what a human really is. Our inner animal brain’s program is going to be exposed and MANY are not ready for this. Should be interesting to see the effects on society when they can rock out to 100,000 screaming fans, be in the popular social group or make out with the hottest people. What developmental effects will this have in the long run? I suspect we will start to understand before we hit 2025 and certainly beyond
